Fright Fest 2012 - Mom’s Gold Star
I like this submission because both K. and J. win Gold Stars, but for completely different reasons. K. wins the Gold Star because she seems kind of awesome. I could easily picture what she described in her update, and I liked her storytelling approach (much like in this post). Plus, I’ve always been a fan of demon children horror movies and the idea of a mother being scared of her own demon child (a la The Exorcist, The Bad Seed, etc.). And everyone knows that the little girl from The Ring is terrifying. Well-played, K.
But then in steps J. with a comment so honest, so assured, and with such a stunning blend of ignorance and accuracy, I had to dole out another Gold Star. There’s a reason that movies like The Ring and The Omen and Village of the Damned exist, and it’s because children can be totally creepy. So, I appreciate the frankness of J.’s comment. It’s like children’s creepy tendencies are bringing people together despite their differences. I can practically feel the love burning. Congrats, K. and J. on winning your Gold Stars, and thanks for showing the world that all it takes for parents and non-parents to find middle ground is 90 minutes of this.
